Simple and modest CNY 2010 dinner.
Last Saturday on the 13th February 2010, it was Chinese New Year Eve. As my wife is half chinese from her mum side, she tend to be more in chinese cultured. As this year, her aunties and uncles which usually held CNY eve dinner gathering was away for vacation, we decided to seek for restaurant for the dinner which we will invite my cousin and his brother.
But since the restaurant are mostly fully booked and expensive during the CNY eve, so out a sudden we planned to cook by ourselves. We went out to Tesco Cheras Tmn Midah to buys few stuff for cooking. The traffic was smooth all the way as most KL dwellers went back to kampungs to celebrate CNY with the family or go for vacation.
Arriving at Tesco, saw few chinese family doing last minute shopping such as decoration, vege, soft drinks and snacks for CNY. Some of the chinese family just treats CNY just a normal holiday by bringing family to the small and get closer with the family member. Maybe for them they had booked the dinner and have no worries about cooking for the gathering.
So we purchase most of the stuffs as well from Tesco such as marinated honey pork, marinated black pepper lamb chop, 6 cans of Pepsi, 6 cans of Coke, Yee Sang and others. When we reached home, so i prepared the dishes while my wife cleaning the house. Among the dishes that i cooked was 3 layered pork in soy sauce with dried chilies, grilled honey pork, grilled black pepper lamb chop, fried water spinach, corn kernel with chicken and chicken soup with corns.
Yee Sang bought from Tesco
Grilled Honey Pork and Black Pepper Lam Chop
Fried Kang Kong
3 layered pork in soy sauce with dried chillies.
Fried corn kernel with chicken slice.
It was a simple and modest dinner but we do have fun especially the yee sang part. My wife friend advise that to put 2 ang pow long packet on the yee sang plate for good luck and properity. Hope this correct as this is the first time i prepared for CNY eve dinner. Usually back home in Sarawak, i have few chinese relatives and family members which usually they prepared and i’m only go there for makan. Hope this year of the tiger do bring good luck and properity to us. Happy Chinese New Year 2010.
Ooppss... no mercun this year but KL firework and firecrakers are not so good compare to Sibu on how the firework displays like you are in World War 4. hahahahahahha
