Remembrance our roots on Malaysia Day

Today is 16th September and it the first time it's was officially been approved as public holiday. Today is the day when Malaya was joined by Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak to form a new country called Malaysia. Some of us the young generation of Sarawakian nowadays we just know our history from the text book we read during our schooling days. I just wrote this post as i read few info after googling in the internet. So if my info are wrong, please let me know.

Our current state flag which was introduced on 31st August 1988 and been used ever since.

From the history, during the Brunei Sultanate in the 16th century, Sarawak was divided into districts governed by Pangerans which is representatives of the Sultan. There was some dissatisfaction with the tax system and administration resulted in an insurgency in the 17th century from the people of Sarawak that time. As for the thing were out of control, the Sultan of Brunei had to enlist the help of Pangeran Muda Hashim who in turn sought the assistance of James Brooke.
This flag was use during James Brooke Era

James Brooke’s does not fail the sultan wish and he success in thwarting the insurgency. later he was appointed as the Governor of Sarawak on 24 September 1841. He then became the Sarawak’s first “White Rajah” from 1846 to 1868 when Sarawak gained independence from Brunei. A British-style administration was introduced and local chieftains were appointed as his advisers.
Charles Brooke, who succeeded James Brooke in 1868 divided Sarawak into five divisions. Sarawak came under British rule and a British adviser was appointed in 1888.
In 1917, Charles Vyner Brooke succeeded Charles Brooke. The implementation of a written constitution drawn up in 1941 was precluded by the Japanese invasion in the same year.
With the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II, Sarawak was placed under the British Military Administration till 1946 when it became a British Crown Colony. Sir Charles Arden was appointed as the first British Governor.

The formation of the Federation of Malaysia comprising the Malay Federated States, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak and Brunei was proposed in 1961. Initially, this was met with resistance from the political leaders of Sarawak. Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-haj led missions to Sabah and Sarawak to detail the proposal and assure the leaders as well as the people. The leaders of Sarawak were also invited to join the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Singapore. Subsequent to this, The Cobbold Commission was set up to seek the views of the people regarding the proposal.

The Sarawak New Flag Also known as Trisakti which adapted from Brunei Rebellion flag after entering Malaysia which was used from 1973-1988.
The findings revealed that 70% favoured the formation of Malaysia. This prompted Britain to announce the formation of Malaysia on 31 Aug 1963 in spite of strong opposition from Indonesia and the Philippines. Due to the opposition, another inquiry was commissioned. The second inquiry also reported that the people generally favoured the formation of Malaysia. This led to the official declaration of the formation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963. Sarawak has been a part of Malaysia ever since. Happy Malaysia Day to all Malaysian.

There is a very detailed posting our Sarawak flags available in the internet and it's well written, you may go to Kuching Berjanggut post, Sarawakiana post and Flagpost.

Outing BBQ at Bagan Lalang

A week before Raya, i’d joined my wife colleague for barbeque session at the beach near Bagan Lalang. I’d ever heard of the place from some of my cousin posting and other bloggers. The location is near to KLIA airport but the distance can consider far. It took nearly 1 hour and a half to reach the place. Me and my wife prepared some of the sauce dip and marinated lamb.

As it was on Saturday and it was also my wife off day, we decide to go to her friend house to collect the food and the barbeque utensils as she is the main organizer. So we drove to her house which located at Hulu Langat near to Sg. Congkak recreational place. It took me 45 minutes to reach her place as the traffic was congested with cars. As we reached, I and my wife thought that she is ready and set to go and divide the stuffs to my ride but eventually me and my wife need to wait for yet another 1 hour for her. Don’t want to talk much but if it is well planned, for sure all the things are ready and we should depart from there as soon as we had transfer the stuff to the car.

The sunset view at the beach.

Guess what, none of the foods which prepared by her and  BBQ utensil is inside my car. I wasted my fuel and my time just to drove there and end up with nothing. Ermmm... some of my wife colleague was about to reach Bagan Lalang that time and it was 5:00p.m. For me, it quite disappointment as I’m into photography, at least give me time to snap the evening scenery and activities done by people who throngs to Bagan Lalang. We depart from her house at 5:30p.m and need to stop again at somewhere in Hulu Langat town as she was telling that her husband is on the way. As my wife were not so happy, so we decide to go on our own way to reach Bagan Lalang. I ask for the food and utensils to bring to BBQ sites at Bagan Lalang but was turn down.
So, I and my missus speed off to Bagan Lalang just follow the signage to KLIA. It took me 1 hour 30 minutes to reach the destination. It was a first time BBQ that i’d been which are not well organized. But i can’t give any comment as i was not the organizer but just a follower who tag along. It was nice to catch of the glimpse of sunset. Snap few shot of the sunset and scenery. My missus other colleagues were there was hungry as the BBQ suppose to start at 5:00p.m and we only reached there at 6:45p.m without any food and BBQ utensils.

Starting up the fire

BBQ the food.

Group photo after the BBQ. Some of them had to go early and can't stay for this photo shoot.

A great disappointment as some of my missus friend is fasting as it still Ramadhan month. As it was a BBQ gathering and need some fire, so we decide to start the fire while waiting for the utensil to come later with the help of my wife friend which is Walter and Maurice. We collect debris of used charcoal which scattered nearby our BBQ location. At least with the charcoal burn, we can start BBQ.
It was 7:55p.m, the utensils arrives and we immediately start the BBQ. Some of them were hungry as they were fasting so they have the dinner first. On the stuff to be BBQ, the amount was not much for 10 persons eating. Ermmm...  no comment either.
We end up the session nearly 10:30p.m and we do have fun that evening although there were some hiccups on the preparations.  Maybe next time i would like to suggest that to have pot luck BBQ where each person bring their own dish so that nobody have to wait for the food.

Koko Crunch Chocolate Cookies

Yesterday, i did my own cookie. It was a simple recipe after i watch Asian Food Channel and have an idea how to make one. So i checked my kitchen storage and i have some of the ingredients such as Nestle Koko Crunch Cereal and Cocoa Powder.
So i went off to Carrefour at Midvalley to buy some utensil and ingredients. I bought myself a small box of paper cups (contains 200 pieces), kitchen scale (need it to weight the item), chocolate rice, flour, corn flour, butter and icing sugar.

Here are my recipe for Koko Crunch Chocolate Cookies (80-100 pieces depending on how big is your cookie)

Koko Crunch Chocolate Cookies

Ingredient:-
  • 180g of butter
  • 175g of icing sugar
  • 250g of flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 egg without the yolk.
  • 3 tablespoon of Cocoa Powder
  • 80-100 pieces of cookie paper cups.
How:-
  1. Mix the ingredients consist of Butter, Icing Sugar, Flour, 2 Eggs in a bowl. Once mix together all the ingredient, add the egg without the yolk with the cocoa powder. Stir and mix well.
  2. Once complete mixing, cover the dough with plastic and place in the fridge for 25-45 minutes. This is to speed it up the harden process for the dough.
  3. Then, you take pieces dough and round it like marbles. Place the marbles look dough on the paper cup then you stick the coco crunch to the dough. You may add your creativity on it how you want to place your koko crunch. For topping you may add some chocolate rice (I forgot to put the chocolate rice on).
  4. Baked the cookies in an oven with the heat had been set to 160C for 25-27minutes. Once baked done, place the cookie on aluminium paper and let to cold itself  for 5-8 minutes and then once it harden, you may put it in container.

Freshly baked from the oven. Let it cool down before placing it inside container.

So, with the simple recipe above i believe that you also can baked some cookies. By the way, this is my first time i baked my own cookies and my mum amaze with it that his son able to baked cookies and even ask me to give her the recipe and prepared some for Christmas this year. I even receive a good feedback from my wife and friends.

Indomie or Ibumie? Which one is the real deal

Most of us here for sure love to eat instant noodles as it easy to cook and simple. As we know in Malaysia, there is an instant noodle which we known since kids as Indomie Mi Goreng. I think most aware that the name of Indomie had changed to Ibumie. And the packaging is the same with the old Indomie packaging with the changes on the logo and the words “Always” had been added.

Old Packaging of Indomie Mi Goreng (Taken from Internet after googling)

Ibumie Mi Goreng packaging the same colour with  the old Indomie (Taken from Internet after googling)

Is it Ibumie bought over Indomie? Not sure about that as well but all we know if we were walking around the aisle looking on the instant noodles shelves display at shopping mall, if we see the brown colour packaging we will think it Indomie Mi Goreng.

I stumbled on a new packaging of Indomie selling behind my house. The packaging is totally different from the "Old Indomie Mi Goreng” which is now currently been used by Ibumie. They are 2 type been sold which are “Mi Goreng Perisa Asli” and “Mi Goreng Perisa Spesial”.

The new packaging of Indomie Mi Goreng

Ibumie Always Mi Goreng Curry Capitan Flavour

For the taste wise of between “Ibumie Always Mi Goreng Asli” and “Indomie Mi Goreng Perisa Asli”, can taste the different and texture on the noodles when serve. On the packaging, the “Ibumie” is one of the product made in Malaysia and been distributed by company called “Biz-Allianz International (M) Sdn Bhd". For Indomie is a product made in Indonesia and been imported and distribute by UDI Marketing Sdn Bhd.
Google the internet and found out “Biz –Allianz International “sites stating that one of the product which available is “Indomie”. Not sure either the website had been updated or they are still distribute Indomie in Malaysia.
So, i’m not sure which one is original mi goreng which i had eaten since my childhood time. For me, the packaging really mislead the consumer. Which one of them is the real deal either “Ibumie” or “Indomie” ? You decide and as for me, as long the noodle is cook, i will eat.

D'lala Seafood @ Kpg Baru KL

Was doing some “spring cleaning” on my notebook hard drive and found that there were tones of pictures yet to be edited and shared on my blog. So, to begin with I will post on seafood restaurant located at Kampung Baru KL. This is the only village which is in the heart of hustle bustling city of Kuala Lumpur. There a plenty of food you can get from this village if you intend to treat yourself with local malay delicacies such as nasi lemak, nasi briayani and etc.

My wife colleague proclaims that this shop located at Kampung Baru served the best seafood. So, we went there with my wife other colleagues for dinner. The shop name called D’lala Seafood which serves authentic Thai cuisine.

The ambiance inside the house.

The shop was set in an old Malay house turn to a restaurant. To find a parking at Kampung Baru is hard. You need to have guts to park your car beside the main road and if you were unlucky, you will get a piece of paper place on your wiper either from DBKL enforcer or the police. But lucky that night I didn’t get any.
We order few dishes to be shared among 9 of us. As most of us were not sure on what to order, so we ask my wife friend to recommend which dishes is the best. So we end up ordering 8 dishes.

Fried Pandan Chicken

Fried Beef Thai Style

Sweet and sour chicken

Fried Asparagus with Oyster Sauce

Kerabu Perut

Masak Daging Merah

The desert buffet line.

For the tom yam, ermmm..... i still prefer tom yam serve at Bangsar which i’d posted few months back . The taste of the tom yam here taste a bit diluted. The rest of the food is quite nice.
For the desert, there were a buffet line for desert and you can have as much as you want. The main desert for me is the Pulut Durian which is my favourite.
The price are quite pricey maybe due to the ambience at the restaurant.
